Sun Catchers

Suncatchers are decorative objects designed to capture and refract sunlight, with a history rooted in ancient practices and evolving artistic expressions. While modern suncatchers are primarily viewed as decorative items, their origins are deeply tied to spiritual beliefs and early methods of harnessing light. Long before the advent of contemporary glass suncatchers adorning our windows, ancient cultures were exploring ways to work with light for both spiritual and decorative purposes.  Archaeological evidence indicates that as early as 3500 BCE, various cultures were creating objects specifically intended to interact with sunlight. The earliest forms of suncatchers were likely crystals and polished stones, strategically placed to catch and refract the sun's rays at particular times of the day or year.
